We Lost the Foster Girl

I found the female foster baby dead this evening. I can't say that I'm surprised since she didn't appear to be digesting her food. It may be that there was something wrong with her stomach or digestive tract, or it could have been a million other things.  The boy is still with us and doing ok. He doesn't seem as active as he was earlier today, so keep your fingers crossed. Originally I wanted to do a blog entry after each hand feeding in hopes of getting across the point that this is a really tiring process that shouldn't be taken on by just anyone. I wanted to show everyone the down side of being a hedgehog breeder, and that you can invest all the energy you have and the outcome isn't always good. But that didn't happen. I simply didn't have any energy to spare, so something had to give. Since I couldn't skimp on the babies, the blog got neglected. No worries, I'm still getting down all the really important stuff.

I'm tired. I've been stealing any spare time I have to nap. It's hard to get a good night of sleep when you are waking up every 3-4 hours to check on babies. Then there is all the other stuff that needs to be done. I had to run back to Haverhill and make an appointment for the fire inspector to do a smoke detector and carbon monoxide certificate so we can close on the house. Since I was there, I loaded up the car with more stuff (mostly breakables) to take to the Pelham house. After that, I had to run to the post office and mail out some hedgehog food. Then I went to the grocery store, fed babies, read for a little while, and took a nap. By the time I woke up, it was "time to make the doughnuts".....er feed the babies again (for those of you too young to remember that old Dunkin' Doughnuts commercial, it was about the doughnut maker who got up early to make the Dunkin' Doughnuts and every time he turned around it was "Time to make the doughnuts" again. The point was that he was constantly making fresh doughnuts, and, well, if you don't remember the commercial my humor is totally lost on you.)

It's time to send out a few props:

We visited Val form Ferrets of New England, yesterday.  She made some yummy matzah ball soup for us in exchange for Sean teaching her how to do more stuff to update her website . Go check out ferretsofnewengland.com and read Val's blog and articles on ferret care. Even if you don't have a ferret, head on over there and boost her Google ratings.

HELLO SEAN! and Trunkmonkey Racing. Sean has been very busy this week insulating the upstairs of the garage so that Team Trunkmonkey can have a place to hang out. Also thanks go to James our handy rally master and Brian Batty of northursalia.com for helping complete the 'Man Room'.

Head on over to Hedgehog World and join the forums. We love chatting and we love new people. We also love seeing our old friends and we wish to see some of them, like Stasi from Terrapin Hedgehogs, more often.
