Tiny Hedgies.....in the nest....Are so Fuzzy.....

All is well in the hedgehog room today. I cleaned cages, moved hedgehogs around, and played with some of the older little babies. No one is old enough to leave the nest for more then a few minutes, but I am getting the littles used to human touch. They are extremely cute when they are small (ok, so they are cute when they are big too). I love when they try to self anoint in my hand. They are too small to keep their balance, so you have to hold them or they will tip over. It's just too cute! I've seen day old babies anoint; it's an instinctual thing. It's also cute when they sniff around and explore.

My favorite thing has to be their soft pink tummies. They have sort of a peach fuzz on them and they are warm and plump with milk. I just want to kiss them and eat them all up.

I have some babies that are nearing the 3 week point. This is the absolute best stage because it's when  they open their eyes and really start to explore their world. At around 4 weeks, they will start leaving the hut on their own and usually this is when I start allowing outside visitors (this varies by litter and we limit outside contact because the babies are still tiny and susceptible to germs).
