Busy Day

I had 3 hedgehog babies go home today and 1 get reserved. It's always exciting when new people finally get to take their first hedgehog home. Most people keep in touch to let me know how their hedgehogs are adjusting or to ask questions about quilling and socializing. I love getting pictures of the hedgehog's new home and seeing the new owners enjoing their pet. 4 appointments in one day is a lot, and I'm going to do it again tomorrow. It's a lot of fun, though. It's always great to meet the new owners and see the smiles on their faces as they pick out their hedgehog or see their hedgehog again after reserving it weeks before. I enjoy answering all the excited questions and supplying as much information as possible.

It's been about 14 years since I held my first hedgehog. I remember it, but barely. Its become almost difficult to relate to that initial hesitation of picking up a sharp quilly creature. I pick them up so readily and easily now that most newbies comment on it with surprise. I could juggle them....... well, if I actually COULD juggle, I would be able to juggle them with ease. Everything hedgehog is very natural to me, and I have to constantly remind myself to back up and slow down. Sometimes I'm a little jealous of the awe and wonder I see on the faces of the people who come to Hamor Hollow.

I even notice the awe on the faces of other breeders when they go into our hedgie room and look around at the cages and breeding hedgies and the babies. To me it's all just normal every day life. Of course there are babies, and hedgehogs that need to be medicated, and mating hedgehogs, and............. Goodness, I can barely remember what it felt like 4+ years ago when breeding and babies were new to me. Now I can't imagine not having hedgehogs, young and old.
